Spinal Cord Injury Improvement After Stem Cell Therapy in Mumbai India
She is a known case of Spinal Cord Injury since age of 1 year. After trauma she lost sensations of motor power below D6 level and on bowel bladder. MRI report showed 1) tiny focal traumatic contusion in cervical and upper dorsal spinal cord. 2) Grade 1 listhesis at C6-7 level. 3) Thin pre vertebral and anterior epidural hematoma. Initially she got good physiotherapy rehabilitation. She recovered in terms of bowel and bladder sensation, 50%. She has developed scoliosis (convexity towards right side) due to weakness of paravertebral muscles. Neurologically, she is hypertonic and hyperreflexic. She has ankle clonus. On examination: she has sensory loss below T6 level. She has grade 0 muscle power in bilateral lower extremities and near normal upper extremities strength. She is following time voiding for urination and she passes stool once in every 2-3 days. She has no pressure sores. On ASIA scale she scores "A". Functionally, she needs assistance in most ADL and wheelchair bound for mobility. On WeeFIM she scores 53. After Stem Cell Therapy 1. Exercises tolerance has increased. 2. Sitting posture is better. 3. She sits more erect now. Earlier, she used to stoop to one side. 4. Parents report that she responds to pain (being pinched on the side) now. Karen Davila resorts to stem-cell therapy for son’s autism

Broadcast journalist says the results are dramatic By Cheche V. Moral Philippine Daily Inquirer

DAVILA and her firstborn David at age 10

You can point a mother to the ends of the earth and it wont weaken her resolve to find that cure for her ailing child.

Broadcast journalist Karen Davilas firstborn, David, was 3 years old when he was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified (PDD/NOS) in the Autism Spectrum, a severe form of autism. The development pediatrician said there was no cure for Davids condition.

David didnt have the classic signs of autism, but clearly he wasnt developing like other children his age, says Davila. At the age of 3, he wasnt speaking spontaneously, although he could read. He had tantrums, couldnt express his needs, whether he was hungry or sad, and didnt reach out to other children his age.

Like most kids in the autism spectrum, the boy had attention difficulties. He was spaced out most of the time, and was rigid. It was so heartbreaking to see my eldest this way, she adds.

Davila refused to accept that there was no answer to her sons condition. I researched endlessly and devoted myself to making sure my son got the best possible treatment, she says. She quickly put her son on a casein- and gluten-free diet and biomedical treatment, under the care of Defeat Autism Now (DAN)-licensed doctors.

Davila explains that kids like David lack an enzyme in the body to digest casein, a protein found in cows milk, and gluten, a protein found in wheat, oats, barley and rye. When they take [casein and gluten], it feels like opium in the body, so kids feel high, theyre so hyper, get wild and are spaced out.

David, now 11, has also undergone anti-fungal treatments, and has been taking supplements and B12 injections to help his attention issues. He has also benefited from the help of occupational and speech therapists. Now in Grade 5, David is in his grade level in Multiple Intelligence School, in a smaller class ratio, according to his mother.

Early last year, Davila was offered an opportunity to try the fresh cell therapy being offered by a clinic in Germany called Villa Medica. The stem cells are harvested from lamb fetus and injected into the patient. By then, the journalist-mom had read up on the supposed benefits of stem cell on children with special needs.

Stem cell therapy can kill – health expert

Published on 10 January 2013 Hits: 1,020 Written by Jovee Marie N. Dela Cruz

A HEALTH expert on Wednesday warned that stem cell therapy can also kill.

Dr. Leo Olarte, spokesman of the Philippine Society for Stem Cell Medicine, said that if the stem cell that a patient received is from a donor, it could lead to fatal complications.

He said that a stem cell transplant can pose risks of complications, some potentially fatal, depending on many factors including the type of blood disorder, the type of transplant and the age and health of the person.

Although some people experience few problems with a transplant, others may develop complications that may require treatment or hospitalization. Some complications could even be life-threatening, warned Olarte, also the vice chairman of the Philippine Medical Association.

He said that such complications could be in the form of graft-versus-host disease (allogeneic transplant only), stem cell (graft) failure, organ injury, infections, cataracts, infertility, new cancers and even death.

Olarte said that anyone undergoing a transplant using stem cells from a donor (allogeneic stem cell transplant) may be at risk of graft-versus-host disease.

This condition occurs when a donors transplanted stem cells attack your body. Graft-versus-host disease can be mild or severe. It can occur soon after your transplant or months to years later, he added.

The doctor said that incompatibility can also lead to diseases of the skin (rash, often like sunburn), gut (mouth sores, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting), liver (jaundice or yellowing of the skin), lungs (blocked airways) or eyes (irritation and light sensitivity).

It can lead to chronic disability due to organ injury or infections and can be life-threatening. Your doctor must monitor closely for signs and symptoms of graft-versus-host disease, Olarte said.

Another day with cancer. GENETICS UPDATE
Today I had a genetics test orientation. This test specifically targets the BRCA1 and the BRCA2 genes that are most often found in breast cancers. If I do have a genetic mutation in either of these genes that is a good indicator that I may also develop a new breast cancer or ovarian cancer in the future. It also gives me and my family (kids) key information about how they need to be screened.

Rihanna not gonna Spends Valentine #39;s Day With Chris Brown
Rihanna not gonna Spends Valentine #39;s Day With Chris Brown Rihanna, from the beautiful island nation of Barbados, took control of the American music industry with her debut album entitled "Music of the Sun." Her singles, beginning with "Pon de Replay," dominated the Billboards. And eventually, she received a Grammy Award. Her sultry voice mesmerized music lovers. And her enchanting face, framed by beautiful Rihanna hairstyles, charmed photographers and won over celebrity critics. Was Rihanna born with naturally beautiful hair that complements her perfect face? She was certainly born with a beautiful voice and good genes, but the gorgeous Rihanna hairstyles are not genetically-designed. Article Source: EzineArticles.com Rihanna #39;s hair compliments her face shape With Rihanna #39;s hairstyles, the only role that genetics played is in determining the shape of her face. The shape of the face is the first and foremost aspect that will decide whether a certain hairstyle is jaw-dropping amazing, just acceptable, or hideously atrocious. And Rihanna is no exception. Unfortunately, like most shapes of women #39;s faces, Rihanna #39;s face shape is a combination of two basic face shapes: the oval and the diamond. The ratio of the length and width of her face closely approaches the classic oval face. But due to her hairline, the width across her forehead is precisely equal to the width across her jaw line. This makes her face shape a diamond. Thus, whoever decides Rihanna #39;s hairstyles must ...

Buying Human Milk for Your Baby

Most health experts agree that the best milk for human babies is mother’s milk.  Human milk provides the ideal nutritional mix for the infant. It also partially protects babies from colds and infections early in life (when their own immune system is still immature) because it contains some of the same antibodies that are present in the mother.  These antibodies are not present in cow’s milk.

Unfortunately, some parents are not able to provide their infants with the infant’s mother’s own milk.  Gay couples, for example, and women who are unable to nurse will need another source of human milk.   Some parents find their own donors or rely on websites like Eats on Feets and Human Milk 4 Human Babies; others use established human milk banks such as those affiliated with the Human Milk Banking Association of North America.  The established milk banks alone dispense several millions of ounces of human milk every year; how much is exchanged privately or as a result of contact between strangers over the Internet is unknown.

Purchasers of human milk should be aware that human milk can contain harmful bacteria, or viruses such as H.I.V.   It may also contain certain drugs taken by the human milk donor.  The established milk banks routinely screen their donors and pasteurize the milk before selling it, but not all private exchanges do.   Unpasteurized human milk from an unknown source represents a risk.   It’s is up to the purchaser to decide on how great that risk is.Source:

Beckers Muscular Dystrophy Improvement After Stem Cell Therapy in Mumbai India
He is a known case of BMD since 10 years (2003). The difficulty initially started as difficulty in walking and stair climbing. Slowly weakness progressed and he could not get up from the floor. He went to the local doctor, who advised him to get investigations done. Investigations in 2005 showed Becker #39;s specific gene deletion, however diagnosis was confirmed as BMD based on clinical symptoms, increased CPK values and EMG changes that were consistent with BMD. On examination, he is hypotonic and hyporeflexic. There is hypertrophy of calf muscles and wasting of quadriceps and trunk muscles. There is slight tongue hypertrophy and slight difficulty in speech. He has complete passive range of motion. His upper extremities strength is above functional grade and he does the overhead activities. Out of all the antigravity muscles of lower limbs only plantar flexors are above functional level. Hip flexors are functional level and all the other lower extremities muscles are below functional level. Abdominals have functional level strength. Bilateral extremities are profoundly weak. Functionally he is independent in all ADL, however has great difficulty in getting up from lower surfaces. He needs support to climb staircase. On FIM he scores 104. After Stem Cell Treatment 1. Bilateral calf firmness has become softer than before. 2. He can now do supine to sit independently with ease, earlier he used to take strain and get up. 3. Gene Linked to PTSD Risk in Soldiers

By Traci Pedersen Associate News Editor Reviewed by John M. Grohol, Psy.D. on February 16, 2013

A particular gene variation may play an important role in determining whether or not a soldier develops post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), according to new research at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH).

The genetic connection to PTSD is becoming increasingly clear, along with the complex relationship between hormones such as serotonin and PTSD. Many studies in civilians have suggested a link between this risk gene and PTSD after a traumatic event.

For the study, researchers tracked over 1,000 Israeli soldiers from 2008 to 2010 and used computerized tests to measure the soldiers levels of threat bias. Threat bias was determined by measuring the difference in time it took a soldier to respond to threatening words such as death compared to more neutral words like door.

A link between the combat gene and PTSD was found in those soldiers experiencing high levels of combat and pre-existing levels of high threat vigilance. Soldiers with PTSD symptoms before deployment were at greater risk for PTSD after being deployed.

Soldiers preoccupied with threat at the time of enlistment or with avoiding it just before deployment were more likely to develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), said the researchers.

The combat gene may be an adaptation for high stress, high threat situations, where extreme levels of vigilance offer greater safety and awareness of surroundings. The anxiety and alertness created by the less efficient form of the gene offers little or no benefit in normal life.

Furthermore, soldiers who did not graduate from high school were found to be at greater risk for post-deployment PTSD.

On the other hand, soldiers with a high efficiency form of the serotonin transporter gene were better able to adapt to combat situations and showed no association with PTSD symptoms.

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that plays an important role in the regulation of learning, mood, sleep and vasoconstriction (constriction of blood vessels).

Dr. Diana Bianchi Presents Data Demonstrating Verinata Health's Proprietary Technology Detects Genetic Abnormalities …

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Feb. 15, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Verinata Health, Inc., a privately-held company dedicated to maternal and fetal health, today presented data demonstrating its approach to detect aneuploidies in maternal blood from multiple gestation pregnancies.

(Logo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20120425/SF94380LOGO)

Contrary to previous study findings by other investigators, this study demonstrated that each fetus in twin pregnancies contributes approximately 50 percent less cell-free fetal DNA to a maternal blood sample when compared to the cell-free DNA makeup of singleton pregnancies. As a result of this reduced fetal fraction, deeper sequencing is necessary to determine if a chromosome abnormality is or is not present in one or both of the fetuses with a high degree of confidence.

"While we were able to correctly detect aneuploidy in twin pregnancies with a sequencing depth similar to that currently implemented for singleton pregnancies, deeper sequencing offers better resolution and discrimination for these complex samples," said Richard Rava, Ph.D., Chief Scientific Officer of Verinata Health."Thus, it may reduce the number of false negatives and increase the confidence in the results for multiple gestation pregnancies."

The analysis included 85 maternal plasma samples that were previously excluded from Verinata's large, blinded, prospective validation study of singleton pregnancies. The full singleton study results were previously published in the peer-reviewed journal, Obstetrics & Gynecology (Green Journal). The results show that Verinata's technology correctly detected the one incidence of Down syndrome (trisomy 21) and one incidence of Edwards syndrome (trisomy 18) present within this study population. Importantly, the study also demonstrated that 10 to 15 percent of cases may be at risk of having inadequate fetal cfDNA for accurate classification. Verinata's unique approach using deeper sequencing is required to provide confidence that aneuploidies will be correctly identified.

The study results were presented in an oral presentation entitled "Maternal Plasma DNA Sequencing: Effects of Multiple Gestation on Aneuploidy Detection and the Relative Cell-Free Fetal DNA (cffDNA) per Fetus," (Oral Concurrent Session 4, Program ID#52). Diana Bianchi, M.D. of the Mother Infant Research Institute at Tufts Medical Center presented the data at the 33rd Annual Meeting of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine on February 15, 2013 at 3:15 p.m. Pacific Time.

Verinata Health, Inc.Verinata is driven by a sole, extraordinary purpose maternal and fetal health. Our initial focus is to develop and offer non-invasive tests for early identification of fetal chromosomal abnormalities using our proprietary technologies. We aim to reduce the anxiety associated with today's multi-step process, the unacceptable false-positive rates, the non-specific and sometimes confusing results of current prenatal screening methods, as well as the risk of current invasive procedures. We support national guidelines and the recent American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine Committee Opinion recommending cell-free DNA prenatal testing is one option that can be used as a primary or secondary screening test in women at increased risk of aneuploidy. We believe women who desire such testing should be offered a single blood draw test with a definitive result. The verifi prenatal test is available through a physician. Knottyy #39;s ATF (Alaskan Thunderfuck) Flower
Short video displaying one of the strains I work with. ATF or Alaskan Thunderfuck is of unknown genetics, but I would put it at about an 80/20 Indica/Sativa split. It is definitely Indica dominant, and produces medicine with a very heavy, sedative stone. Trich output is phenominal, giving this strain a very heavily frosted appearance. I have seen other people around the Seattle area with cuts of ATF, but have never seen anyone with the same pheno as this. Don #39;t know why it only recorded in 480. I may redo this video. "His Way" Symbolism and Functions in Prophecy 1/5 - Understanding Bible Prophecy 3
In this third session we do a detailed examination of the first 3 prophecies in the Bible, deriving precedents for understanding prophetic riddles based on fulfilled prophecies, also introducing the concepts of cyclic prophecies and fractal prophecies. Also discussed is the battle of good vs. evil between Jesus Christ and Satan, the meaning of "the seed of the woman" vs. "the seed of the serpent", and in brief, the topics of paternal spiritual lineage, human multiplication, the origin of demons, the genetics of the sons of God and nephilim, and the rephaim, gigantism after the flood, and humanity #39;s lifespans before and after the Flood (850 years vs. 120 years, respectively). Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. Genesis 6:3 And the LORD said, My spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also [is] flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years. Genesis 22:17-18 That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which [is] upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice.
